Kaizer Chiefs came into the Premier Soccer League game against Richards Bay at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex on Tuesday night as favourites but ended up suffering a 1-0 defeat.
This was the fourth defeat in a row for the Soweto giants across all competitions, and the fifth defeat in six recent assignments. It means Amakhosi are now almost guaranteed a season without silverware after eliminations from the Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederation Cup.
Currently, Amakhosi are on 30 points in the Premier Soccer League, 11 less than both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, who lead the chase.

Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has explained how the suspension of Zitha Kwinika and Inacio Miguel – who have been a rock at the back, affected his team against the Natal Rich Boys.
Kwinika and Miguel’s absence cost Amakhosi
“It’s a disappointing result, of course we started well the game but unfortunately we conceded a goal on an individual mistake. I believe as well we were a little bit shaky in the defence probably the injury of [Inacio] Miguel and suspension of [Zitha] Kwinika, you have to change the whole defence,” he told the media.
“I believe that mostly costed us the game, but we have to do better, the only thing is to go back to the training field and hope that we get back our players injured and suspended.

“[Miguel] felt something since in the morning and the medical staff tried everything. They tried even during the warm-up session to fix it and we were assessing and at the end he couldn’t get his place,” he concluded.
The next game for Chiefs will be at the FNB Stadium on Sunday, March 15.
