‘This is nonsense’ – Hugo Broos reveals what annoys him ahead of Nigeria clash

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has maintained his criticism of the state of the playing surface for his team’s match against Nigeria on Tuesday.

South Africa will host the Super Eagles at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein looking for a win that could potentially secure their place at next year’s World Cup.

However, there has been debate over the state of the pitch at the stadium with Broos expressing his dissatisfaction last week before they took on Lesotho and while he could not do much as they were away, he is not happy that they are playing on a poor surface in their home match.

“I said this already before I’m not happy with the pitch either and there were people who were blaming me that I didn’t want to play here,” said Broos as quoted by iDiski Times.

“This is stupid. But the pitch is not what we want to have and it’s true all the qualifiers we played on very good pitches. Okay this one is not so good there is no reason why we are playing here against Nigeria because the pitch is not good. This is nonsense. We’d have also liked to have a very good pitch before.”

Broos feels the poor state on the pitch could impact his team’s performance although he remains confident of securing a win against the Super Eagles, who will present a tougher test compared to Lesotho, who they beat 3-0 on Friday.

“It’s not like that and we have to deal with the pitch of tomorrow [Tuesday] and we also played on this pitch on Friday also and that was not our choice, that was Lesotho who was the home team,” he added.

“But it’s not that bad I have to say, and we also saw the game on Friday. We can’t blame that this is a very, very bad pitch.”

Bafana Bafana lead Group C with 16 points with Benin second on 11 as Nigeria occupy third place with 10 and a win for South Africa will leave the Super Eagles on the brink of elimination while they could seal their place at the World Cup if Benin drop points against Lesotho.
