‘We can’t make subs because you ask for it!’ Kaizer Chiefs fans told

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has responded to the club's supporters who were demanding changes in the game against AmaZulu.

Thando Ngwenya had put Usuthu in front before Mduduzi Shabalala ensured the teams went to the break tied 1-1. However, it could have been in favour of the hosts, who had missed a penalty courtesy of Glody Lilepo, while Khanyisa Mayo needlessly touched a goal-bound effort from Pule Mmodi, which saw him flagged for offside.

The Supporters at the FNB Stadium demanded substitutions to be made as they were getting frustrated with players missing chances. The first sub was made in the 70th minute, with the others following up.

Ben Youssef has now explained why the technical team took time to tinker with the players on the pitch.

When the team is doing good, you don't make subs

“I think when we made substitutes, we were in our best moment of the second half, we were dominating the game, making changes, you want to either correct something or add something,” he told the media.

“When your team is doing good, or all the players are playing well, you don’t need to make substitutions. We made the first one for Lilepo, because in the last two games. I also have to say congratulations to him for playing with an injury.

“If we want to add something or correct something, we do it. The performance of the players were good, they missed chances, they were unlucky at times, but we need to continue to work,” he concluded.

On Sunday, Chiefs play Stellenbosch in the Carling Knockout's Round of 16 at the Cape Town Stadium.
