Absent from MTN8, Chiefs reveal what will keep them busy while awaiting league start

Kaizer Chiefs will not be participating in the MTN8 this season due to finishing outside the top eight last season and have announced their plans for the interim period leading up to the start of the Betway Premiership in September.

The 2024/25 PSL season begins on 3 August with the MTN8 quarterfinals, while the semi-finals are scheduled for later this month.

Meanwhile, clubs qualifying for CAF competitions will contest the first preliminary round, except for Mamelodi Sundowns who exempted as one the highly-ranked teams in Africa.

Amakhosi will only be in action in the PSL on 14 September when the league starts. They will begin there campaign against Marumo Gallants away at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Now, the club’s Commercial and Marketing Director Jessica Motaung has revealed that the Phefeni Glamour Boys will soon jet off to Botswana where they will test themselves with some of the clubs in the neighbouring country.

“First of all I want to say congratulations to the league and its new sponsorship with Betway, we are excited about that,” said Motaung.

“Obviously we are looking forward to the new season with us having our fixtures starting in September, we have a number of friendlies that we’ll announce. I can say we will be in Botswana at the end of the month [July] which will be nice to be away and regroup again.

“We have exciting things, last night was a fantastic launch, thank you to the media and everybody who attended, we had a great time launching our jersey.

“So we have a lot of other things with our sponsors that we’ll be announcing and we looking forward to making this year or a season great for our supporters.”

Chiefs were last in Botswana just before the start of the previous season where they were downed 1-0 by Township Rollers thanks to Thabo Rakhale’s strike.

Moreover, Amakhosi will take on Young Africans on Sunday in the inaugural Toyota Cup at Free State Toyota Stadium at 3 pm.
