Rulani Mokwena has reportedly resigned from his position as head coach of Libyan club Al Ittihad amid reports that he has been offered a big-money deal in Egypt.
A sensational report has emerged suggesting that Egyptian powerhouse Pyramids FC have offered a lucrative contract, valued at nearly R2 million per month, to Mokwena and his technical team.
This development follows news that Mokwena has left his role at Libyan club Al Ittihad, with an official announcement anticipated shortly.

Mokwena cuts ties with Libyan outfit
The South African coach joined Al Ittihad in February 2026 after a successful stint with MC Alger, where he secured the Algerian Cup. However, his time in Libya was less fruitful, as the team failed to win either the Libyan Cup or the Premier League, drawing criticism from some of the club’s supporters.
Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Mokwena had resigned from his position at Al Ittihad just as the club was beginning its pre-season preparations. That has now been confirmed on Monday although the Libyan club is yet to give an official statement.

Speculation about his next move quickly intensified, with widespread reports linking him to a move to Pyramids FC.
Big-money offer at Pyramids
According to KickOff, Pyramids has presented Mokwena and his staff with a combined monthly salary of $120,000 (approximately R1.9 million), supplemented by performance-based incentives.

The proposed deal is reportedly for a one-year term, with an option to extend by mutual consent. It is also said to include significant bonuses for winning major titles such as the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League.
Despite the substantial nature of the offer, it is noted that this salary would still be less than what Pyramids paid their former Croatian coach, Krunoslav Jurcic, who led then to the 2024-25 CAF Champions League crown.
