AFCON 2025: CANAL+ and SuperSport make major announcement

In a landmark move for African football broadcasting, CANAL+ and its MultiChoice subsidiary SuperSport have secured the rights to deliver the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025™ (AFCON 2025) in an unprecedented array of languages: including French, English, Portuguese, and several indigenous African languages.

The announcement, made on Thursday, confirms that SuperSport will broadcast the 35th edition of Africa’s premier football tournament across English and Portuguese-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa, while CANAL+ will extend coverage to Francophone regions and beyond.

When the tournament kicks off in Morocco on 21 December 2025, CANAL+ will become the first global broadcaster to offer AFCON coverage in such a wide linguistic spectrum, a move hailed as a major step forward in making African football more accessible and inclusive.

“Our newly-formed merger with the MultiChoice Group has already unlocked opportunities and benefits for our customers,” said David Mignot, CEO of CANAL+ Africa. “Broadcasting this competition in multiple languages builds closeness with our viewers. Our subscribers will be part of the most spectacular celebration of African football.”

A Global Stage for African Excellence

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe welcomed the development, emphasizing the tournament’s growing global appeal.

“This is an exciting day for CAF and African football. The last AFCON in Ivory Coast attracted around 1.5 billion viewers globally. We expect Morocco 2025 to reach even greater heights, inspiring new audiences and showcasing the best of African talent.”

A Truly Pan-African Viewing Experience

Rendani Ramovha, Director of Sport Content for English and Portuguese-speaking Africa at MultiChoice, highlighted the broadcaster’s commitment to delivering a rich, localized experience:

“SuperSport has long been the home of African football. With a dedicated SuperSport AFCON channel, fans can expect compelling coverage in the language of their choice — whether it’s English, Portuguese, Pidgin, Swahili, isiZulu, or Setswana.”

Viewers across the continent will be able to watch the action on DStv and GOtv, while CANAL+ subscribers can tune in via CANAL+ Sport and the CANAL+ app.

Star Power and Expert Analysis

The broadcast will feature a stellar line-up of African football legends, expert analysts, and charismatic presenters, offering in-depth commentary and unique insights throughout the tournament.

Fans can look forward to seeing some of the continent’s biggest stars in action, including:

  • Victor Osimhen (Nigeria)
  • Mohamed Salah (Egypt)
  • Sadio Mané (Senegal)
  • Ronwen Williams (South Africa)
  • Riyad Mahrez (Algeria)
  • Achraf Hakimi (Morocco)

With 180 countries expressing interest in broadcasting the tournament, AFCON Morocco 2025 is poised to be the most widely viewed edition in history, a true celebration of African football on the world stage.
