Jose Riveiro is set to take over as Al Ahly coach after leaving the Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates.
The Spaniard served the Soweto giants for three seasons before opting against extending his contract. In his stint at Bucs, the tactician won five titles – three MTN8 crowns and two Nedbank Cups. Players like Patrick Maswanganyi, Thalente Mbatha, Thabiso Sesane, Relebohile Mofokeng, Monnapule Saleng, and Mohau Nkota did well under him.
There have been reports that Riveiro might be considering taking a few players with him to Egypt. Saleng and Mofokeng are among the players who have been linked with a move to the Red Devils ahead of the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup.
Will Riveiro raid Pirates for key players?

Riveiro has now responded to rumours that he will leave with a couple of players to the Club of the Century.
“It’s a difficult question, Pirates is full of talent, full of really good prospects. But that’s not my role and will never be. Right now in modern football, we as coaches have a say obviously in the players who are coming and going, but it belongs more to the strategic side of the business,” he said in his interview with Radio947.
“In this case, for Orlando Pirates and whichever club wants to look at our talent here. The role that I’m playing in that kind of situation and operation is minimal, and whatever happens in the future is not going to have a straight relation with my decision, my influence, or my opinion,” he concluded.
