Outgoing Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is reportedly set to sign a bumper deal with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Riveiro is set to depart Pirates after Tuesday’s PSL home match against Golden Arrows and he has already been reported to be on his way to Al Ahly.
The Spanish tactician negotiated an early exit from Pirates and is set to leave on Wednesday to complete the formalities of his deal in Cairo and according to reports, he will sign a two-year contract and join the club with his own backroom staff.
Egyptian outlet Yallakora reports that Riveiro’s new job will see him earn $135,000 (R2.4 million) per month, making him the highest paid coach on the continent, with the club looking up to him to return them to continental glory.
Al Ahly look to Riveiro for Champions League success
Al Ahly exited the CAF Champions League at the semi-final stage following a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns, who went through on the away goals rule.
That was after winning the last two Champions League crowns and the club reacted by parting ways with Swiss coach Marcel Koller.
Now, Riveiro is set to be the man in the hot seat, having impressed the Al Ahly hierarchy with his work at Pirates, where he won five trophies in three years and guided the Buccaneers to the Champions League semi-final for the first time since 2013.
Yallakora also reports that Riveiro will fly to Cairo on Wednesday and will be hoping for a winning farewell at home to Arrow as Pirates look to delay Sundowns’ title celebrations.
