Despite the inconsistencies by Kaizer Chiefs across all competitions, the Soweto Giants have shown hunger and desire even when results are not going their way.
The Glamour Boys have two wins, a draw, and two losses in the five Premier Soccer League matches they have played so far. After a 4-0 win over SuperSport United in the Carling Knockout's Round of 16, they fell by the same margin against Mamelodi Sundowns who are in the final.
Club's former winger Junior Khanye has noted some massive changes regarding the players' attitude as well as the style of play.
He however pointed out that the club will struggle to end a trophy drought but will finish inside the top eight bracket on the PSL table at the end of the season. It will be a massive improvement from the team that finished 10th in the 2023/24 edition.
Nabi can fight for the top eight in the league – Khanye
“There are some positives, and I’ll give it to him for that. There is speed in his team and another thing I noticed is that his team scores,” he told iDiski Times.
“I mean they scored four against SuperSport [United], three in 20 minutes against AmaZulu, two against Magesi and the fact that they are able to come back in matches is a positive. In past seasons, if Chiefs conceded two goals they wouldn’t come back.
“He can probably fight for the top 8 in the Betway Premiership because the league is weak if we are being honest, there are also clubs worse than Chiefs. Kaizer Chiefs are under pressure from players to coaches I don’t think they can afford to not be in the top 8 again.
“Sometimes it’s not about the quality of the team but character. Just like the game where they conceded two goals and came back and scored two themselves against Magesi. Character helped them to that and they know what’s at stake so top 8 yes, but they are not going to win a trophy, not even the Nedbank Cup,” Khanye concluded.
After the international break, Chiefs host Richards Bay in the league outing at the FNB Stadium.
