Bafana Bafana get nightmare CHAN 2024 qualifying draw

Bafana Bafana have been handed a tough draw for the second round of the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024) qualifiers as they will take on Egypt.

South Africa are among seven teams yet to book their ticket to the tournament, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in August, whose draw was conducted in January.

Just like in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, South Africa will take on Egypt in the second stage qualifiers for the tournament reserved for players playing their local leagues.

Bafana Bafana will host the first leg between February 28 and March 2 with the return match slated between March 7 and 9.

Who will Bafana face in the final round?

If they overcome the Pharaohs, South Africa will face either Comoros or Malawi in the final round of the qualifiers to seal their place at the tournament.

Bafana Bafana therefore have their work cut out as the final round looks more manageable than the first round of the qualifiers but must secure victory in the two-legged match to seal their ticket.

The other match will see The Gambia take on Gabon with the winner of that match set to face defending champions Algeria in the final round of the qualifiers.

The final round of the qualifiers will be held between May 2 and 11 after which the qualified teams will complete the draw.
