Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng played a crucial role as Bafana Bafana drew with the Czech Republic on Thursday in the 2026 FIFA World Cup’s Group A outing staged at the Atlanta Stadium.
The 21-year-old was an unused substitute in the 2-0 loss against co-hosts Mexico in the competition’s opener. But in the second fixture, the versatile attacker replaced Jayden Adams in the second half and went on to cause havoc in the opponent’s defense.

South Africa came from a goal down, scored early by Michal Sadilek, to get a point thanks to Teboho Mokoena’s strike.
Nevertheless, Mofokeng had left his mark despite coming into the match under pressure to help Bafana Bafana get a positive outcome. He insists that knowing he was relied on to make an impression was a motivation for him to give his best.
Mofokeng delighted after World Cup debut
“I have always wanted to play for the country and to give everything. So I will always do my best, and if my country is happy, I am also happy. I am proud of myself. We came here to compete; we are doing very well, and we want to give our all,” Mofokeng opened up to the media.

“It means a lot because when someone expects something from you, you get motivated to do more and give them what they want. So I think it gives me confidence, and I am doing it for them.
“Obviously, as teammates, we speak, laugh, and we enjoy the moment. So the most important thing is to enjoy the moment.
“When I came on, it was my debut, so they were happy for me. When they also come in, I will be happy for them. We must just be happy for each other and encourage each other,” Mofokeng concluded.

It is interesting to see whether Mofokeng will be trusted to start a must-win final Group A game against South Korea.
