Bafana Bafana forward Cassius Mailula has shared insights regarding his recent transfer to Wydad Casablanca, detailing the reasons for his choice of the North African team.

He’s the first South African player to join Wydad following Mokwena’s appointment as the head coach of the club last month.

The transfer was officially confirmed on Wednesday, with Mailula moving to the Red Castle on loan from his parent club, Toronto FC, which participates in Major League Soccer (MLS).

It appears Wydad hold an option to exercise a permanent transfer once the loan spell comes to an end.

In his remarks after the unveiling, Mailula said Rulani Mokwena’s presence at the club is the main factor behind his decision to join.

He further stated that Wydad Casablanca's participation in the FIFA Club World Cup next year significantly influenced his decision to join the club, as he aspires to compete on an international level.

BAFANA BAFANA FORWARD ON WHY HE JOINED WYDAD CASABLANCA

“I chose Wydad AC for several compelling reasons. First, I will be under the guidance of Coach Rhulani, who knows me well and has always believed in my abilities.

“He played a pivotal role in my upcoming at Mamelodi Sundowns. Wydad is a prestigious club, and when Coach Rhulani shared his ambitions and his vision to make history with the team, I knew it was the right choice.

“Additionally, the opportunity to compete in the Club World Cup next year is a significant driver to the decision, as it aligns with my dream to play against the best players in the world.”

OTHER SOUTH AFRICAN PLAYERS LINKED WITH WYDAD

Meanwhile, Bafana and Al Ahly star Percy Tau and former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu could also reunite with Mokwena at Wydad.

With Zungu, Mokwena admitted the club has had talks with the player’s camp while he recently refused to speak about Tau saying he’s still contracted to the Egyptian giants.
