Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabiso Monyane had hoped to make the Bafana Bafana squad for the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Nigeria, respectively.
The former Orlando Pirates player has been phenomenal since joining the Glamour Boys at the beginning of the 2025/26 season. The 25-year-old has played a massive role in helping Amakhosi collect 10 points from the four Premier Soccer League matches played so far without conceding a goal.

Despite the absence of Khuliso Mudau, who has not played a minute so far for Mamelodi Sundowns, coach Hugo Broos went for Nyiko Mobbie and Zuko Mdunyelwa for the right-back position.
A section of South African fans questioned why the Glamour Boys' new man was not given a chance despite his form.

“That was a guy that was on our list a year ago, and he played a friendly with us, I think, but it was more than a year ago,” Broos responded when asked about the full-back.
“When you see what has happened to him at Pirates, he didn’t play anymore, and now he is back at Chiefs, and you see little by little [growing in form and confidence], but maybe selecting him for these upcoming games was going to be a little bit too soon.
“I hope that he can confirm in the next weeks what he has shown us so far in the past few weeks at Chiefs and then again, maybe we can be with him in the games in October,” the Belgian concluded.
