Banyana Banyana have landed what appears to be a favourable draw for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
South Africa, who are the defending champions, have landed in Group C alongside Ghana, Mali and Tanzania, a pool that comprises teams with less experience on the continent than them.
Desiree Eliss’ side will have to navigate their way past the group with Ghana the other top team in the pool after finishing second and third on three occasions respectively.
Mali’s best result was fourth place achieved in 2018 while Tanzania, who are making a return since 2010, have never gone past the group stages.
How do the other groups look?
It therefore presents South Africa with an opportunity to top the group and make it to the quarter-final as they bid to defend their title.
Meanwhile, Group A has Morocco, runners-up in 2022, Zambia, who finished third that year, Senegal and DR Congo while Group B has 10-time champions Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana.
The tournament will take place in Morocco for the second successive edition between July 5 and 26, 2025.
