Ben Khalil analyses Chiefs’ CAF CC loss to Al Masry insisting Amakhosi didn’t deserve defeat

Kaizer Chiefs conceded late to fall 2-1 against Al Masry in Group D’s CAF Confederation Cup outing staged at the Suez Stadium.

Rwanda midfielder Bonheur Mugisha stepped up and slotted low shot past the Glamour Boys captain Brandon Petersen, to give the hosts a lead.

However, Dillan Solomons went on a solo run before beating the Al Masry goalkeeper to make it 1-1.

In the 87th minute, from a corner, Chiefs defenders missed the ball which bounced dangerously in the box while Miguel Inacio’s attempt to clear it was not fruitful and defender Mohamed Hashem reacted quickly to poke it home and give Al Masry all three points.

The Soweto giants co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef insists his team could, at least, registered a draw in Egypt.

Amakhosi deserved a minimum of a draw

“This was the first time that more than 80 percent of our players experienced this level of continental football. It’s very different from the PSL. Here you must be more focused, more aggressive. At this level, matches are decided by very small details. If you lose concentration for even one second, you can concede,” he told Amakhosi media team.

“Looking at our performance, we deserved a minimum of a draw. But we have to learn from our mistakes. We’ll analyse the game, look at the positives and the negatives, and continue to work,” Ben Youssef added.

The tactician the opened up on the next assignment against Zamalek at home, “Zamalek are one of the best teams in Africa with huge experience in continental competition. It will be a tough game, but if we want to qualify, we cannot afford any mistakes at home. We need to win our home matches and collect more points away.

“We know our fans, we know the stadium, and we know it will be full. Their support means everything. I hope next weekend we’ll win and put ourselves in a better position in the group,” he concluded.
