Former Manchester United first-team coach Benni McCarthy has provided an update on his future, addressing speculation linking him to various clubs both domestically and internationally.
The 47-year-old has been without a club since leaving Manchester United in June. The Red Devils subsequently appointed former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as his replacement.
McCarthy has been linked with clubs in the MLS, as well as South African sides like AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Richards Bay FC.
However, he has clarified that he is open to opportunities in both the Betway Premiership and European leagues, provided they align with his ambition for a challenging role at an “established” club.
The Bafana Bafana legend has revealed that he has already conducted interviews with a few European clubs and is currently awaiting feedback on those discussions.
MCCARTHY SHEDS LIGHT ON HIS FUTURE
“I think I’m itching to get back but it must be the right project for me,” said McCarthy in an interview with Metro FM.
“I don’t wanna go into another situation I had with AmaZulu, where you do exceptionally well and then you’re kind of being held back instead of you pushing to take things further.
“So, I want a club that’s established, that knows what they want and where they want to see themselves in the next two, three seasons.
“If it is in line with what I want to do, with what I have in mind for myself, then yes of course I’m open to coming back to South Africa.
“But I’m also open to Europe and I’ve had a few interviews with some clubs. Now, I’m just waiting for feedback. Whichever comes up first then I will consider it seriously.”
