Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has explained where his coaching future lies.
McCarthy is currently the head coach of the Kenya national team, where he has a contract up to 2027, with his mandate ending after that year's Africa Cup of Nations that will be held in East Africa.
The former AmaZulu and Cape Town City coach is hoping that his spell with the Harambee Stars is a successful one but he has no desire to stay beyond his contract.
Benni keen to quickly return to club management

“I am a young coach and still new at this. This is my fourth job as a manager. I want to learn and better myself,” McCarthy told the media in Nairobi on Wednesday.
“My ambition is to one day go back and manage a club. I want to do this every day. I want to be with the players every day. At international level, you do not get that.”
The 47-year-old is in his first job as national team coach and feels international football is something he would do again but once he fully exploits club football management.
“Maybe when I am 70, I can come back but for now, I am too young to do this [manage a national team] for 10 years. So, I want to go back to club football. It would be very selfish if I do not continue learning,” he added.
What has McCarthy’s spell in Kenya been like?

“In the near future, I would be looking to manage a football club because I want to pass the knowledge to players every day.”
The former Manchester United first team coach started his reign in Kenya in March 2025 and has so far taken charge of five matches, winning two, drawing as many and losing one.
One of the two wins was against DR Congo in the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) and he will be hoping for a third one as Kenya face COSAFA champions Angola in their second group stage match on Thursday evening.
