Benni McCarthy to SAFA, Broos & Co. after Mokoena blunder and FIFA sanctions – ‘Heads must fly!’

South Africa legend Benni McCarthy insists action must be taken against those responsible for recent Bafana Bafana woes.

FIFA recently sanctioned Mzansi for fielding suspended Teboho Mokoena in the Group C's World Cup qualifier against Lesotho played in March.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder had accumulated two bookings in his previous outings, but was fielded in the fixture against the Crocodiles.

World Football Governing Body found SAFA guilty of the grave mistake and docked Bafana Bafana three points and three goals in favour of Lesotho. South Africa are now second in the group with 14 points, the same as Benin who have a superior goal difference.

It puts them in a tricky situation with Nigeria and Rwanda just three points behind the Hugo Broos men.

Heads have to fly!

In his recent interview, Broos stated everybody, starting with SAFA down to Mokoena, should be held responsible for the mistake. This is after Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie stated all those found guilty will suffer the consequences.

Bafana Bafana legend McCarthy sees no option; he is adamant that heads must roll if the country fails to collect maximum points against Zimbabwe and Rwanda, respectively, eventually missing out on the prestigious global competition.

“People responsible must pay the hefty price because South Africa haven't qualified since the Japan and Korea co-hosting in 2002. That was the last time we qualified. I am not saying they aren't going through, but football is a funny game,” he told Soccer Africa on SuperSport.

“If these two games don't go accordingly and we are knocked out because of incompetence, then heads have to fly, as simple as that,” he concluded.
