Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has confirmed his final squad that will represent the country in the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
South Africa will play Zimbabwe on Friday, October 10, at Moses Mabhida, in Durban. They will then host Rwanda at the Mbombela Stadium in Durban four days later, matches they have to win to stand a chance of qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in 25 years.
Orlando Pirates, who have been doing well in the Premier Soccer League after a poor start that saw them lose their opening two games, have the lion's share. Mamelodi Sundowns, as usual, are well represented, but Kaizer Chiefs have been snubbed.
Broos opens up on who is to blame after the Mokoena saga
The Belgian has further opened up about Teboho Mokoena's blunder that saw Bafana Bafana get docked three points, with Lesotho getting a 3-0 win.
“Who is responsible, and I see already that the minister also wants to investigate who is responsible, it’s clear; I’m responsible, I am the coach. I have to know that these guys have two yellow cards. My technical staff because they didn’t tell me that Teboho has two yellow cards,” he said during the naming of the squad.
“The team manager is responsible, because he didn’t follow up. The player is responsible, because he didn’t say anything. And the administration of SAFA is responsible, so no everybody knows who’s responsible. So stop with it, just focus on the two games that are coming now and support us like you did before.
“We will see where we will arrive. But we will do everything, 100% to win those two games. Again, for me, it’s an extra motivation,” Broos concluded.
