Brandon Petersen: Kaizer Chiefs coach provides worrying update on goalkeeper

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a significant blow with goalkeeper Brandon Peterson ruled out for an unspecified time.

Peterson’s unexpected absence from the Soweto Derby on Saturday raised eyebrows, as he has been a standout performer for Amakhosi this season. In his place, Bruce Bvuma was handed his first start of the campaign as the Glamour Boys lost 3-0.

Coach Cedric Kaze clarified the reason for the goalkeeper’s exclusion, revealing a serious health issue.

“Brandon has been sick; he was admitted to the hospital and had surgery two days ago,” Kaze told SuperSport TV. “We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Bvuma’s first game was a disaster

Bvuma’s return to the starting lineup was a difficult one, as he conceded three goals in a decisive loss at FNB Stadium. Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis, and Evidence Makgopa all found the back of the net for Pirates, securing an emphatic victory.

Adding to Chiefs’ woes, promising youngster Mduduzi Shabalala was also missing from the matchday squad. Reports suggest the player’s absence was due to disciplinary issues, with sources indicating a recent lack of professionalism.

With no specified time over when Petersen will return, it is a big blow for Chiefs who had looked solid with the goalkeeper in goal this season.

Petersen has been a mainstay since the season started and was rewarded with the captain’s armband and with a new contract given his current deal is coming to its end in June.
