Kaizer Chiefs have extended the contract of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, whose deal was set to run out at the end of this season.
Petersen has become one of Chiefs’ key players this season and was even made captain by coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, affirming his status as one of their main men.
The goalkeeper has backed it up with impressive performances this term, including a great save in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Zambia’s ZESCO United in the CAF Confederation Cup.

That took his tally of cleans sheets to 13 in 20 matches, having conceded just 11 over that period, and Chiefs have decided to retain his services for at least one more year.
According to SABC Sport, Chiefs have triggered their one-year contract extension on Petersen’s deal, keeping him at the club at least until June 2027, having handed him a two-year contract in 2024, which had the option to extend by one.
It is reported that Chiefs have tied down the goalkeeper for one more year but still want to make his stay longer with the latest move a signal of the faith they have in him.
Goalkeeper has faced stiff competition

Petersen has been at Chiefs since joining from Bidvest Wits in 2021 and enjoyed mixed fortunes as he has been in and out of the team during that period.
However, his stock has risen this season, becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, backing it up with impressive performances in 2025-26.
Petersen had to fight it out to win his place in the team as Chiefs started last season with new signing Fiacre Ntwari in goal before he briefly came in only for Bruce Bvuma to take over for the rest of the campaign.
