Broos confident Bafana can silence Lesotho in FIFA WC qualifier but sounds warning to his stars

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is convinced he has enough quality to get past Lesotho on Friday, September 5, in Group C's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Hugo Broos' men secured a controversial 2-0 win in the initial meeting, which puts them in a good position to qualify for the global competition to be jointly hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Bafana Bafana are currently on top of their pool with 13 points after six matchdays.

Rwanda and Benin have eight points each, which puts them second and third, respectively, ahead of fourth-placed Nigeria who are on seven points. The Crocodiles are fifth with six points, two more than Zimbabwe at the bottom of the pool.

It explains why South Africa are the favourites to top the group and play the prestigious tournament for the first time in 15 years.

Broos confident about beating Lesotho, but…

“We are still strong enough to beat Lesotho, but again, we have to focus and we have to concentrate,” the veteran tactician said as quoted by SAFA media.

“We have to reach our level best, and we have to fight. Playing a good game of football is okay when we can do it, why shouldn’t we do it, but let’s start from the first game, from the first minute, and fight for every second, for every square metre on the pitch, and try to win that game. It would be a very good situation for us if we could win the game on Friday,” he concluded.
