Kaizer Chiefs might have received a boost regarding one of their former targets after Bafana Bafana forward Khanyisa Mayo found himself in a difficult position in Algeria.
Mayo had been on Chiefs’ radar before he elected to sign for Algerian side CR Belouizdad in August 2024 but exactly one year later, he has no future at the club after being left out of the squad.
The former Cape Town City forward was not registered in the squad by coach Sead Ramovic, who has made him surplus to requirements, and the player saw the Algerian transfer window close on Monday without securing a transfer.
Will Chiefs revive their interest in Mayo?

It means Mayo is left in limbo as he is yet to secure a move while his current club has no desire to use him, leaving the door open for Chiefs to revive their interest.
Chiefs have already signed 10 players and it is not certain if they are still in the market for more but the availability of Mayo could change their minds.
With the South Africa transfer window still open, Mayo’s next destination will likely be the PSL and Chiefs might have to fight it out with other clubs for the player’s signature.

As per reports in Algeria, Mayo is among three players, the others being Cameroonian Jacques Mbe and Ivorian Arafat Doumbia, who Ramovic was not convinced by and the club already filled its foreign quarter, slamming the door on the Bafana Bafana star.
CR Belouizdad have reportedly been seeking to terminate his contract but the player and his camp have insisted that a full compensation for the remainder of his deal, which runs until 2027, must be paid before a parting of ways, leading to a standoff.
The Umtata-born star made 41 appearances in all competitions in his debut season in Algeria, scoring six goals while providing one assist, but that has been deemed insufficient by CR Belouizdad.
