Legendary Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane has been confirmed as Bafana Bafana's captain for the forthcoming international assignments.
South Africa are set to play Uganda Cranes on Friday, September 6 at the Orlando Stadium before facing South Sudan in Juba four days later.
Why have an interim captain?
Regular captain Ronwen Williams is not yet fit to play competitive matches after coming back from an injury recently.
“Themba Zwane will captain the Bafana Bafana team that will face Uganda and South Sudan in two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] qualifiers in the coming days.,” Safa confirmed.
“The team has been hard at work since arriving in camp this week and is fired up to get the Afcon campaign on a positive note.”
Who else is in the Bafana Bafana camp?
The Federation has confirmed coach Hugo Broos has all the players available for the two games.
“The Bafana Bafana coach has his full complement of players in camp after Elias Mokwana arrived on Monday night, with Siyabonga Ngezana and Sphephelo Sithole joining the rest of the group on Tuesday morning,” Safa continued.
Congo are the other team in Group K; two top teams will seal their place in the Afcon finals to be held in Morocco next year.
Bafana Bafana reached the semi-final and came back with a bronze in the 2023 edition held in Ivory Coast.
