Coach Hugo Broos given four Kaizer Chiefs stars for World Cup: ‘Not as a gift but performance’

Kaizer Chiefs defied the odds to hold Orlando Pirates to a one-all draw on Sunday at the FNB Stadium in the Premier Soccer League’s Soweto Derby.

Club’s co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has now explained why, apart from Brandon Petersen, the likes of Lebohang Maboe, Thabiso Monyane and Bradley Cross should be considered for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada.

It will be tough for Broos, but…

“I think it’s not only Petersen, we have about four or five players who are putting big pressure for the coach, and would fit for him,” the tactician told the media.

“I think it will be tough for him to decide. I think Petersen before the injury he was showing good performances.

“He was working very well with his coach, Mzouri. And I think that from my point of view he deserves to be in the national team, regarding his performance, not as a gift but it’s because of his performance.

“Same for Cross, same for Maboe, same for Monyane. I think they are pushing and I think it’s time that a player from Kaizer Chiefs gets the chance to be in the national team,” Ben Youssef concluded.

Bafana Bafana are in Group A in the World Cup alongside Mexico, the Czech Republic, and South Korea.
