Broos Reveals Conversation With Mudau Amid Sundowns Contract Dispute

Published on by

The contractual troubles of Khuliso Mudau, one of Africa's top full-backs, have now extended to his international career.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos revealed he personally intervened by meeting with the player to resolve the situation that led to his month-long absence from training.

Mudau, who has been a defensive stalwart for Mamelodi Sundowns and the South African national team, was a no-show for his club's pre-season preparations due to a contract standoff.

Although he is now back on the training pitch with Sundowns and discussing a new deal, with clubs in North Africa and Asia reportedly vying for his signature, Broos decided not to include the 30-year-old in the squad for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Nigeria.

BROOS ON THE MEETING HE HAD WITH MUDAU

“First of all, stay in contact with the club and see what really the situation is, then asking the club – if I can help, if I should help to solve the problem? So I got the agreement of the coach of Sundowns, that I could have a meeting with Khuliso,” Broos said.

“So I had a meeting with Khuliso, and I told him he was right in some things but he was not right in others things, like for example, not going to training, you don’t solve a problem by not going to training – even when there’s a disagreement between you and the club.

“This is an obligation of a player, if you don’t play, that’s something else, you can say okay, I won’t play until the problem is solved, but you have to go to training… so I think he’s training agains and I hope, as soon as possible, it’s solved, he’s the best right back of this country and one of the best in Africa.

“So you can’t… it’s difficult for me not to have him in my team, so it’s a duty for Bafana Bafana coach, to also help solve a problem like that.”
