Polokwane City, once again, proved they are a hard nut to crack after a statement-making 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League fixture staged at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts scored their first goal in the 17th minute by their target and Bafana Bafana international Oswin Appollis who converted an assist from Tlou Nkwe after the Soweto giants were caught napping. The second strike came in the stoppages from Mokibelo Ramabu – against the run of play.
In recent outings, Rise and Shine have beaten defending PSL champions and TS Galaxy. Coach Phuti Mohafe has now explained why he is delighted with those victories in South African top-flight football.
The wins against Chiefs and Sundowns mirror Polokwane's effort
“Up to so far, I can say they [matches] are special matches that Polokwane City has played. I think we have treated them well,” the tactician opened up to the media.
“I think it’s Sundowns, it’s Chiefs and it’s TS Galaxy, because Galaxy is a strong team, is a strong team, and it’s stronger than Chiefs and Sundowns, according to me.
“They are very difficult that team to beat. So, these three matches have been the mirror of what we are doing as the technical team of Polokwane City and as Polokwane City as a whole.”
The win put Polokwane third on the Premier Soccer League table with 17 points from the 10 matches they have played. The next test will be against Marumo Gallants on Sunday at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Gallants are currently 10th on the table with as many points.
