CAF Champions League: Former SuperSport United Striker Fires Yanga Past FAR Rabat

Published on by

Young Africans SC began their CAF Champions League group stage campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Moroccan giants FAR Rabat in a tense Group B clash played at a neutral venue on Saturday.

The Tanzanian champions relied on discipline and efficiency to secure the win, with the decisive moment arriving in the 58th minute. Prince Dube, a former SuperSport United striker, reacted quickest inside the box to steer home the winner after a cagey first half.

Dube’s journey to this stage began in South Africa, where he signed for SuperSport United in 2017 from Zimbabwean side Highlanders. During his stint in the PSL, he made nine league appearances but struggled to cement a starting role, scoring one goal before returning to Zimbabwe and later moving to Tanzania to join Yanga in 2020. Since then, he has become a key figure for the club, consistently delivering in domestic and continental competitions.

The match intensified after Dube’s strike as FAR Rabat pushed for an equaliser, with substitute Mohamed Khabba and goalkeeper Anas Zniti Tagnaouti picking up bookings amid a late surge.

Pedro Gonçalves’ men held firm, buoyed by standout defensive performances from Mpia and Kouma, to claim a vital opening win in what is widely regarded as one of the most competitive groups in this year’s tournament.
