Mamelodi Sundowns have been on an ascendancy, not only in South African football but on the continent as well.
After winning their first star in the Caf Champions League in 2016, Masandawana have struggled to get the second one. The only continental crown they have won recently is the African Football League in the 2023/24 season.
However, they can get their second star by beating Pyramids in a two-legged final in the prestigious continental competitions. The first leg will be played on Saturday, May 24, at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, while the second leg is scheduled for June 1 in Cairo.

Sundowns legend Teko Modise believes this is the time for the Premier Soccer League champions to end their continental crown drought. He believes the team has invested a lot in the last couple of years and deserves to conquer Africa.
This is Sundowns opportunity
“A second star would be dope; Mamelodi Sundowns have been building a team for so many years, the objective every season is to go on and win the Champions League, that’s why you also see the new coach coming in,” he told the media.
“That’s the objective for Mamelodi Sundowns, we speak about the Champions League all the time, and we know the pain that has been going through Sundowns for so many years, being unable to qualify and go to the final with all the investment they have put in.
“So this is a big opportunity over the next weeks, and yeah, I’m sure the team is preparing well, knowing the type of opposition, and you just hope they win,” Modise concluded.
In this edition, Masandawana got past Al Ahly in the semi-final while Pyramids beat Orlando Pirates to get into the last four.
