Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has expressed his frustration at his player’s poor decision-making in the final third during their 1-0 loss to Cape Town City.
Chiefs started the year on a sour note when Darwin Gonzalez’s goal gave Cape Town a well-deserved 1-0 win but they had opportunities to get at least a draw, or even win the game, with poor finishing proving costly.
It is a performance that has left Nabi concerned as he feels his players failed to step up to the plate when they were needed to.
What did not impress the Chiefs coach?
“We feel that we made some mistakes especially in the first half. We were unlucky not to make the right decisions in the final third going into the opponent’s goal,” Nabi told SuperSport TV.
“Unfortunately, the opponent got a counter attack and we were not able to come back from that.
“I feel the decision-making in the final third sometimes we played too many touches, sometimes we played too early, that is how it was today and we feel we didn’t deserve to win but we didn’t deserve to lose the three points but we have to go back, work and improve.”
Nabi’s other frustration is that his players did not show their true quality, leading to a drop in the level of performance, and wants to see more desire going forward.
Nabi hoping for new signings this month
“We had to wait for an individual except Shabalala, everyone needs to step up. If a player does not feel good, everyone needs to lift the team, contribute to the improvement of the team,” he added.
With the January transfer window open, Chiefs are among teams expected to be busy and the veteran tactician admits his team is crying out for reinforcements to save their season.
“The transfer is open, every club is trying to improve their squad. Our club is trying, working very hard to try to look at different offers, it's not easy. It is January but everyone is working very hard.”
