Cedric Kaze opens up on his Kaizer Chiefs future after Soweto Derby thrashing

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has weighed in on his future at the club after a series of bad results that culminated in the 3-0 thrashing by Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby.

Chiefs were put to the sword by Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday with first half goals from Tshepang Moremi and Oswin Appollis before the Buccaneers completed the job in the second half with Evidence Makgopa’s header.

It was the worst Soweto Derby defeat for Chiefs in the last 25 years and the fourth loss in their last five games and with 11 points behind PSL leaders Pirates, they look to be out of the title race even if they have a game in hand.

That has brought sharp focus into the futures of Kaze and his co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef who were promoted from being Nasreddine Nabi’s assistants to the main men until the end of the season.

The decision to give the two the job seems to have backfired on Chiefs who are now out of all competitions and Kaze was asked if he was sure of keeping his job beyond this campaign.

“It’s not up to me but I believe that we’re here because we’re trusted by management,” Kaze told the media as per iDiski Times.

“It’s true that we’ve been in a series of bad results, but I believe there are things that have worked in the past few months.

“We need to remind ourselves, our players what has worked in the first half of the league and probably come back to the basics of football – how well we defended, if we don’t score, don’t concede, things like that, it’s the only way to go forward.”

Chiefs are fourth on the table with 30 points, 11 behind Pirates and eight adrift of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns who play away to Sekhukhune United on Sunday.
