Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile has shunned PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates and opted to join Tanzanian giants Young Africans.

Young Africans officially announced the signing of Namibian international on Monday night, concluding a highly anticipated transfer saga.

The Tanzanian champions confirmed the move through a celebratory post on their social media platforms, declaring that Shalulile, widely regarded as one of Africa’s top forwards, is now a member of the “Wananchi.”

Shalulile enjoyed cult status at Sundowns

Shalulile joins the Dar es Salaam-based club as a free agent following his departure from Sundowns at the end of June.

His six-year tenure with the South African powerhouse was immensely successful, yielding 136 goals across all competitions and establishing him as one of the most formidable strikers in the country’s football history.

During his time at Sundowns, he won multiple league titles, domestic cups, and the prestigious CAF Champions League.

Mngqithi gets his man amid Chiefs, Pirates links

The transfer reunites the 32-year-old with Yanga head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, who previously managed Shalulile in South Africa. This existing relationship is believed to have been a crucial element in the striker’s decision to join Yanga amidst strong interest from rivals Simba SC and other clubs in Zimbabwe, Egypt, and the Middle East.

Shalulile’s arrival addresses a key need in Yanga’s attack following the recent departure of Zimbabwean forward Prince Dube. The reigning Mainland Premier League champions have secured a proven goalscorer to lead their line as they prepare for another campaign in the CAF Champions League.

Both Chiefs and Pirates have been linked with a move for Shalulile since his exit from Sundowns but a deal did not materialise with the Soweto giants opting for other options.
