South Africa international and Kaizer Chiefs Academy graduate Siyabonga Ngezana was struck with an object thrown from the stands during his recent assignment in Romania.

FCSB were playing Rapid București in the country's SuperLiga game, hoping to collect maximum points in their bid to successfully defend their crown. The Red and Blues eventually won the game 2-1, extending their lead at the top with just four games remaining to conclude the ongoing 2024/25 season.

However, there was an ugly scene witnessed in the third minute. The Bafana Bafana defender Ngezana was struck from the stands in the third minute. He was attended to by the medical staff before getting a green light to continue.

In a statement by the Romanian Gendarmerie, the suspect has now been identified as confirmed by Digi Sport.

The authorities have confirmed fines that might add up to thousands and a ban are all a possibility for the unruly supporter, if, of course, he is found guilty of the offense.

“At the beginning of the first half, an individual threw an object from the stands, hitting a player from the visiting team,” read a statement to the public.

“Gendarmes identified a person suspected of committing the act, and following a review of operational footage, measures will be taken in accordance with current legislation.

“In this context, the individual risks a fine ranging from 500 to 1,500 lei[(approximately between R2 000 to R6,500], as well as a complementary sanction banning access to competitions and sporting events of the same type for a period of one year.”

The next assignment for Ngezana and co. will be against Dinamo Bucuresti.
