Kaizer Chiefs offered chance to sign Bafana star as Khune approves deal

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly been offered a chance to sign Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana who is currently a free agent.

Mokwana is without a club since severing ties with Tunisian giants Esperance, who signed him from Sekhukhune United in 2024, played him for one season, and sent him out on loan to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hazem last term.

The winger did not return to Tunisia upon the end of his loan in Saudi with both parties parting ways and he has been looking for a new home in the last few months.

According to SABC journalist Mazola Molefe, Mokwana’s representatives have offered the forward to Chiefs who are said to be assessing the situation.

Khune wants Mokwana at Chiefs

While Chiefs continue their assessment, club legend Itumeleng Khune has advised the Soweto giants to move with speed and sign Mokwana.

“Mokwana reminds me of Jabu “Shuffle” back then because he is very skillful and he is not afraid to take on his defender,” Kune said on SABC.

“He can also create and score goals, not to mention his continental experience can be very useful for AmaKhosi because the youngsters can also look up to him for guidance.”

Former Jomo Cosmos midfielder Mark Haskins would also love to see Mokwana donning the black and gold of Amakhosi.

Bafana star has plenty of experience

“I like him and I believe that he can add value to that Kaizer Chiefs team, and I was shocked that he wasn’t pursued by one of our local giants before he went abroad,” stated Haskins.

Mokwana scored one goal and provided three assists in 24 matches for Al-Hazem last season, having managed seven goals and four assists in 38 games for Esperance in 2024-25.

He left Sekhukhune after playing 65 games, having scored six goals and weighed in with seven assists.
