Latest on Chiefs-linked Mokwana: ‘We are still sorting other personal things’

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs had been linked with Bafana Bafana international winger Elias Mokwana.

However, the versatile winger opted to join Tunisian heavyweights Esperance de Tunis. Last season, the North African outfit loaned the 27-year-old to the Saudi Pro League side Al Hazem.

Recently, Esperance and Mokwana confirmed parting ways, ending their association. The contract termination was an amicable agreement between the player and the club, resolving the registration issue that left him unable to play.

The Glamour Boys are among clubs who have been credited with an interest before and the door could now be open for the Glamour Boys to snap him up now that he is available for free.

Mokwana back in the Premier Soccer League?

Chiefs have exploited the free agent market in recent years, signing players without the extra burden of paying transfer fees, and Mokwana is another attractive prospect that could beef up the attack for coach Fernando da Cruz, given his quality and experience.

However, Mokwana’s agent Pontsho Madumo insists the South African attacker might not return to the Mzansi top-tier.

“We haven’t decided as yet on Mokwana’s next move. We are still sorting other personal things [in Tunisia]. As for coming back home, I doubt that would happen,” he told FARPost.

It is interesting to see where Mokwana will be playing next season as he works on his way back to Bafana Bafana, a spot he lost when struggling for consistency. Pitso Mosimane is at the helm of the national team after replacing Hugo Broos who retired after the 2024 World Cup.
