Chiefs problem is like Manchester City’s – Katsande

New Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has been on the receiving end owing to the club's failure to keep clean sheets in the five Premier Soccer League games he has played.

During the most recent international break, Ntwari suffered an injury in the 2-1 win over Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. It was a blessing in disguise for him since his critics had a chance to have a look at what other keepers had to offer.

In the last two games – against Richards Bay and Royal AM respectively, Brandon Petersen was given his chance while Brice Bvuma was named on the bench. The Glamour Boys recorded a 2-1 win against the former before throwing a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against the latter.

Former club's midfielder Willard Katsande believes just like the way Manchester City are missing the injured Rodri in their midfield, Amakhosi are missing a proper defensive midfielder to help shield the defenders.

Number six we have is more of ‘Shugela'

“If you look around the world, the dominance of teams, all the successful teams always have a strong six, who is gonna be a destroyer and give the team shape. Look how Man City is lost a little bit [without Rodri],” Katsande told SoccerBeat YouTube Channel.

“The number six we have in South Africa is more of ‘Shugela', everybody wants the ball. If you look at our current team, we need a six.

“We need to be strong there in order to compete. We're conceding every game, it goes down to that. In our last championship, I think we won 11 games 1-0, that was not a mistake. We knew how to defend. Sometimes you need a strong six to give the defence a cushion,” he concluded.

Chiefs hope to get a favourable outcome against Polokwane City in the Premier Soccer League game against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
