Kaizer Chiefs are expected to continue strengthening their squad in the forthcoming transfer window.
One of the players they have been chasing is Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana international Neo Maema who is deemed as surplus to requirements at the Premier Soccer League's defending champions.
However, it seems coach Miguel Cardoso has other plans in his bid to freshen the team and re-build his own squad. There are also reports that Masandawana are keen on downsizing, which will affect many players. Maema is one of the players who might be let go.
The Glamour Boys are seen as the favourites to land the 29-year-old versatile South Africa international.
‘Maema's destiny is in his hands'

“What I can tell you is that we know and believe that Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be highly interested in signing him, but him as a player has indicated that he would want to fight for his place at Sundowns which seems very slim. That's why we believe his destiny or destination is in his own hands. This is whether he joins Chiefs or not,” SNL24 reported.
“It won't be easy, though, for him at Sundowns going forward. It's believed that the squad downsizing will affect a lot of players, and he could be one of them. Though he still has one year remaining on his contract. So, a move away could be the best solution for him in this condition. So, the Chiefs move could still be in the cards at the end of the season,” the second source described the situation.”
Chiefs have gone for a decade without a trophy but might end the drought this season. They have struggled in the Premier Soccer League but are currently in the Nedbank Cup semi-final, where they will play either Sekhukhune United or Mamelodi Sundowns.
