Chiefs’ Silva turns a cold shoulder on critics – ‘Points more important than goals’

Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Silva is determined to excel and help the Glamour Boys realise their objectives.

The bulky striker joined Amakhosi at the beginning of the season, but he is set for a tough battle to establish himself as a starter. Khanyisa Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro, Wandile Duba, and Ashley du Preez are the other players who can lead the attacking department.

The 29-year-old former Persebaya Surabaya striker has so far played four games for the Soweto giants across all competitions. He has two goals to his name, showing he can be a hit once he fully settles.

However, a section of the fans are not convinced Silva has what it takes to be the main man for the glory-hungry Chiefs.

Silva motivated to help Chiefs

The striker is set to start on Saturday as the Soweto giants host Kabuscorp in the second leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. Silva insists his main job is to help the team realise a collective objective rather than an individual one.

“I am very happy because I am motivated to help the team. We have big targets and lots of ambition, and I am delighted to contribute. Collecting points is more important than the goals, so I am happier with my first goal because it helped us to get a victory,” he told the media.

“A few years ago, I came to South Africa and visited FNB Stadium for a match against a Ghanaian team. The atmosphere was beautiful, so for me, my first game was very, very special. I felt happy to play there myself.

“So I’m okay. My family has arrived, which is the most important thing outside of football. I have been here a few months, and I am starting to get used to it, and I am feeling happy,” Silva concluded.
