Kaizer Chiefs star gives top marks to Da Cruz’s start – ‘We are on the right track’

Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika believes the team has made a “good start” to the Betway Premiership season, despite acknowledging there is still room for improvement.

The Soweto giants have secured two wins and two draws in their opening four matches as they prepare for a Sunday clash against Siwelele FC at Dobsonville Stadium.

This unbeaten run under new head coach Fernando da Cruz places the Glamour Boys third on the league table with eight points. They trail early leaders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns by five points, although the leading duo have played a game more.

Kaizer Chiefs defender lauds great start

Speaking to the media at Naturena on Wednesday, Kwinika expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress, even while admitting they could have collected more points.

“I think for me it’s a good start. To be honest, we started well,” Kwinika stated as quoted by Soccer Laduma. “It’s just football things that need to be fixed. And then we continue. Yes, it’s not maybe the most required result because of the points we lost or how we lost the points.”

The defender reiterated his belief that the squad is moving in the right direction. “But for me, we are on the right track and heading in the right direction,” he added.

Chiefs will view the upcoming fixture as a prime opportunity to gain ground on the top two. Their opponents, Siwelele FC, are struggling for form, sitting in 14th place with just two points from their first four games.

Siwelele’s poor form to favour Amakhosi?

The Bloemfontein-based side remains winless in the 2026/27 campaign, having recorded two draws and two losses while scoring only three goals and conceding six.

Siwelele’s results this season include a 2-2 draw with TS Galaxy, a 1-0 loss to Milford FC, a 2-0 defeat at AmaZulu, and a 1-1 draw against Chippa United in their most recent outing.

A victory on Sunday could see Chiefs move to 11 points from a possible 15. The club will be hoping for a strong home atmosphere, returning to Dobsonville Stadium for the first time since their dominant 3-0 win over AS Simba in the CAF Confederation Cup in October 2025.

The match against Siwelele FC is scheduled to kick off at 17:30 at Dobsonville Stadium.
