Kaizer Chiefs have been doing relatively well in the Premier Soccer League and the CAF Confederation Cup this season.
They are currently third on the PSL table with 30 points, five less than Orlando Pirates, who are the current favourites. Mamelodi Sundowns, the defending champions, are second with 32 points.

One of the players who has been influential is goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. Last season, he just managed five appearances across all competitions, but it was his exploits in the Nedbank Cup final that saw him cement his place in the Glamour Boys squad.
In the ongoing campaign, the 31-year-old has played 23 matches across all competitions and managed to keep 15 cleansheets.
The Petersen impact
Lebohang Maboe, who is one of the players signed by Kaizer Chiefs in the offseason transfer window, insists Petersen’s exploits have given his teammates the confidence they need in matches.

“He gives us a lot of confidence because it’s a football game, you’re bound to make mistakes, but knowing that you have a keeper of his quality behind, that’s someone you can trust. He’s someone you can believe in,” he told the media.
The midfielder has further shared his mind regarding the race for the PSL crown this season.
“I think if you look at the league, we’re number one in terms of clean-sheets and defence. So, I think it’s a team effort; we all know that we have to protect our keeper. Yeah, I think it’s a team effort,” Maboe concluded.
Mthethwa explains next ambition after Nedbank Cup’s exit
Meanwhile, Sibongiseni Mthethwa insists the club can push for the league title after the defeat to Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup, a competition they had won last season.

“The only thing that I can say is that the reason why we are playing is that we want to win the Cup [League]. So we are there, if we get a chance, we have to grab it,” he told the media.
“First of all, we got knocked out of the Nedbank Cup. So our main focus now is the league and the Confederation Cup. That’s the confidence that we have you understand? That is the only thing that is pushing us now. We have to fight for it,” Mthethwa concluded.
On Saturday, Amakhosi will be playing Zamalek SC in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup.
