Fawaaz Basadien: Agent reveals why Chiefs failed to land Sundowns star

Fawaaz Basadien’s agent has revealed how Kaizer Chiefs failed to land the highly-rated defender.

Basadien sprung to prominence at Stellenbosch FC where he became one of the best left-backs in the PSL and attracted interest from Chiefs as well as rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

There was also interest from North African clubs but it was Sundowns who won the race for his signature and signed him ahead of this season.

Basadien’s agent Basia Michael says Chiefs were heavily interested in the player but fell short of the asking price which Sundowns ultimately paid and landed the defender.

“There was interest from Chiefs, and there was actually a formal offer from Chiefs as well from what I know, and it just didn’t meet the asking price,” Michaels said on the Behind The Boot podcast.

“A player has a valuation according to the club that they come from. And the club that is buying the player can put down a certain amount of money,” she added.

Chiefs turned their attention to free agent Paseka Mako, who had left Pirates ,and also brought in Nkanyisa Shinga, who is yet to make his debut for the club to date.

Frustration at Sundowns for ex-Stellies defender

Meanwhile, Basadien has struggled for game time since signing for Sundowns and has cut a frustrating figure as he is rarely used by coach Miguel Cardoso.

The defender has played just nine matches for the Brazilians as he is behind Aubrey Modiba and Divine Lunga who are preferred by Cardoso.

There have been calls on Basadien to leave Sundowns for a club that will give him opportunities with rumours of a possible Stellenbosch return in January but he remained at Chloorkop.
