Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau almost left the Egypt Premier League champions Al Ahly in the recent transfer window after falling out with his manager Marcel Kohler.
Kaizer Chiefs tried to get the player but failed, the same way with Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Athletic Club who are coached by former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician Rulani Mokwena.
Tau is in his final year at Al Ahly, and to date, it is not clear whether he will stay or leave once the deal concludes at the end of the ongoing campaign. However, the 30-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils rivals Zamalek.
Nevertheless, former Al Ahly star Said Abdelhafiz does not see Tau joining the Royal Club, insisting the 30-year-old's most likely destination will be South Africa.
Tau will go back to the Premier Soccer League!
“Percy Tau is a distinguished player, but his performance last season and this season are completely far from the level he showed in Koller’s first season,” he told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
“From what I know about Percy Tau, if he does not renew his contract with Al Ahly, he will return to South Africa. It will be difficult for Zamalek to sign Percy Tau, especially in light of the financial crisis the club is suffering from.
“What I understand from Percy Tau's personality is that if Al-Ahly does not renew his contract, the player will return to South Africa.”
Since joining Al Ahly from Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion in the 2021/22 season, Tau has won 11 major titles.
