Chiefs Transfer News: Amakhosi set to land Portugal-based defender

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs are set to sign several players this season in their bid to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The Glamour Boys had a disappointing campaign in the Premier Soccer League, where they struggled to a ninth-place finish. However, coach Nasreddine Nabi managed to end the club's decade-long trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup.

There have been speculations about Portugal-based defender Mhleli Mabuza who trained with the Glamour Boys at the end of the 2024/25 season. While some people believe a deal is imminent, reports from the club indicate nothing has been agreed between the parties.

Mabuza is currently a free agent after parting ways with Portuguese fourth-division outfit Louletano D.C. Last season, he managed nine assists despite being a defender.

There has been no formal offer

“Chiefs are still weighing up their options. There’s been no formal offer for Mabuza yet, He trained with the team, and the technical staff have had a chance to look at him, but nothing has been finalised,” SNL24 reported.

“There’s interest from other clubs as well, but the player has his heart set on joining Chiefs. He’s a quality fullback with experience in Europe, and we’re confident he can add value,” they concluded.

Reeve Frosler played a good number of matches last season, with Njabulo Blom coming in occasionally. However, it was Dillan Solomons who ended as the team's first-choice right-back owing to his solid displays.

Next season, Kaizer Chiefs are expected to have a say in the Premier Soccer League, as well as other domestic competitions like the Carling Knockout and the Nedbank Cup. Amakhosi will also take part in the Caf Confederation Cup.
