Chippa United add Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns goalkeepers to transfer wish list

With two of their crucial goalkeepers linked with exit, Chippa United have reportedly added a Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper to their transfer wish list.

The PSL transfer window is just two weeks away following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season which saw the Chilli Boys finish in 12th position in the DStv Premiership standings.

The Eastern Cape-based side is set to lose two goalkeepers – Stanley Nwabali and Lloyd Kazapua.

Now, Sekhukhune who are currently undergoing the squad overhaul this off-season, is reportedly close to completing the signing of the Namibian goalkeeper Kazapua.

It appears, he is earmarked as the replacement for Ali Sangare who is reportedly leaving the club ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season.

Meanwhile, Nwabali who was a standout performer for Super Eagles at AFCON, leading his country to the final where they eventually lost to the tournament’s hosts Ivory Coast, is also “not coming back to Chippa” next season according to the club’s goalkeeper coach Sean Louw.

Louw revealed to FARPost that the Nigerian goalkeeper had received approximately 10 to 12 offers, as conveyed verbally. It is known that four PSL teams are actively trying to attract him, while there is also interest from clubs abroad.

WHICH KAIZER CHIEFS GOALKEEPER IS EYEING BY CHIPPA UNITED?

According to FARPost, Chippa are eyeing Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson who’s been struggling for game time this season. The 29-year-old only made 11 appearances across all competitions, conceding on six occasions.

Though Peterson appeared to be the Soweto giants' first choice goalkeeper at the season's start, a string of costly errors led him to lose his starting position. Amakhosi then turned to Bruce Bvuma, who took over as the number one goalkeeper.

The report added that the Chilli Boys offered Chiefs Nwabali and another player in order to get Peterson, however, Amakhosi refused.

Despite Peterson's early-season struggles, Chiefs demonstrated their continued faith in him by announcing a contract extension in February. This new deal keeps him at the club until June 2026.

Peterson has been with the Glamour Boys since 2021 after signing from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.

CHIPPA’S INTEREST IN DENNIS ONYANGO

On the wish list of Chippa, Peterson joins Mamelodi Sundowns' veteran goalkeeper, Denis Onyango, who also emerged as a key transfer target for the club. In a bid to bolster their goalkeeping department, Chippa are looking for an experienced shot-stopper.

Onyango's contract with the Tshwane giants expires this month, and his future remains uncertain with the DStv Premiership champions yet to take a decision on him.
