Departing Riveiro on why Pirates mustn’t be concerned about his successor

Published on by

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has offered a reassuring message to the club's supporters as he prepares to leave at the end of the current season.

The Spanish tactician, who arrived in 2022, will conclude a successful three-year tenure with the Buccaneers.

Riveiro's time at the helm has been marked by significant trophy success, having secured five major titles: three consecutive MTN8 cups and two Nedbank Cups.

He still has an opportunity to add another piece of silverware before his departure, as Orlando Pirates are set to face Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, May 10th, at Moses Mabhida Stadium. While the league title is gradually slipping away, they can mathematically win it.

Riveiro emphasised that the success achieved during his spell was not solely down to him but was a result of the collective hard work of the technical team and everyone involved with the club.

Looking ahead, the Spanish coach urged the Pirates faithful not to be concerned about the future. He expressed confidence that his successor will be well-supported by the club's existing structures, enabling them to continue the progress made during his time and build upon the foundation that has been laid.

‘NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE’

“This is a club project, not a Riveiro project, I’ve answered this question many, many times,” said Riveiro.

“The club knows what they are doing. Whoever is coming is gonna be the right person and will have the support and will find himself in a good platform to continue where we’re going to stop at the end of the season.

“Football is a cycle and Orlando Pirates is a huge institution, nothing is going to change because Riveiro is in or out.

“The Buccaneers don’t need to be concerned about that because the future is brilliant for the club and it’s gonna be alright.”
