Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo believes the Glamour Boys are rightfully being left out of the Bafana Bafana team since the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are doing well.
Rushwin Dortley is the only Amakhosi player who has been involved in the recent international outings. As a matter of fact, he played all six 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers where the Hugo Broos-led team finished top of Group K with 14 points, one more than Uganda Cranes.
In his interview with iDiski Times, Khumalo argues the Nasreddine Nabi-led team has a lot of work to do before starting to regularly produce players for the national team
“No, it doesn’t hurt me [that Chiefs are not being considered by Broos],” the former attacker opened up.
Why have a bad feeling for missing Bafana call-ups?
“That’s the truth of the matter, and I mean, when we were dominating the national team with nine players, Chiefs supporters were happy. So why do we have to be like having a bad feeling about that?”
However, the 57-year-old questioned whether Masandawana and Bucs will have the legs to carry the national team when the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers resume in March with games against Lesotho and Benin respectively.
“Do you know, the next game is in March against Benin, the 11th. And now, as a person who is involved with football, we think ahead, who was playing in the final; Sundowns. Who’s in the Champions League? Sundowns and Pirates. Between January and March, that’s a critical phase of the PSL, there’s the Champions League, to be in the top eight, to win the Nedbank Cup footballing problems, and then we have Benin.
“Two teams make Bafana now. Sundowns and Pirates. Which teams are going to be most involved? Sundowns and Pirates. Are we going to have legs for Benin? Have you ever thought about it?”
However, Chiefs have been showing signs of improvement in recent games and soon they might be having numbers in the national team.
