DStv Diski Challenge Saturday Wrap: Pirates Rout AmaZulu to Go Five Points Clear

Published on by

Orlando Pirates stretched their lead at the summit of the DStv Diski Challenge to five points after a commanding 3-0 victory over AmaZulu on Saturday, spoiling Kurt Lentjies’ debut as Usuthu’s new reserve team coach.

Lentjies, recently appointed to replace Mncedisi ‘Dada’ Sibiya, endured a baptism of fire as the Buccaneers showed their class to maintain their grip on the title race.

Siwelele Back in the Mix

Elsewhere, Siwelele rolled back the years with a spirited 2-1 win over TS Galaxy, climbing to third on 26 points, eight behind the leaders. The Free State outfit looked sharp and determined to stay in the hunt.

Stellenbosch and Chippa Make Statements

Stellenbosch continued their impressive run, dismantling Polokwane City 3-0 to remain fourth and firmly in contention.

In a crucial relegation battle, newcomers Orbit College edged Chippa United in a six-pointer, leaving both sides locked on 14 points.

Second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns will aim to close the gap on Pirates when they face Sekhukhune United early on.

Later, a KZN derby between Durban City and Golden Arrows promises drama, with both sides desperate to escape the drop zone.

The day ends with a blockbuster: Richards Bay vs Kaizer Chiefs. Amakhosi, fifth with 20 points, are chasing history as they bid to become the first team to defend the Diski Challenge title. Despite a slow start, captain Thulani Mabaso insists Chiefs will fight to the end, even as they trail Pirates by 11 points.
