Ex-Chiefs coach on what he expects from Sundowns against Esperance

Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has revealed what he expects from Mamelodi Sundowns when they take on Esperance on Tuesday.

Anticipation is building for the CAF Champions League quarterfinal first leg between Masandawana and Esperance, set to take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

Khan believes Masandawana will be a more formidable opponent for Esperance than they were against Sekhukhune United in their last outing.

Furthermore, he is confident that Miguel Cardoso's team has the quality to triumph over the Tunisian giants.

FAROUK KHAN ON SUNDOWNS VS ESPERANCE CLASH

“League football and cup football are different, and Sundowns will be a different team tomorrow compared to when they faced Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup,” Khan told KickOff.

“For Sundowns, there has always been a focus on the Champions League. I believe they have the capability to win this match.

“They possess the quality, and they have a highly capable coach who has experience in this situation and has coached in this cup competition stage before. I am confident that Sundowns can overcome this challenge.

“Any of the eight remaining teams has the potential to win it; it ultimately depends on who wants it the most on the day.

“Club football is about minimizing mistakes and maximizing goal-scoring opportunities.

“We have two teams advancing in the Champions League, and I think South African football has made significant progress. We hope this reflects positively on other teams in the PSL.

“When you invest in the right structure and bring in the right technical staff, you increase the chances of having two South African teams in the final. And hopefully, they will both progress to the semifinals as well.”
