Ex-Chiefs midfielder Maluleka makes shock move after AmaZulu exit

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka has made a shock move to a lowly PSL club with just a few days left before the transfer window shuts down.

Maluleka was the first player to leave AmaZulu FC at the end of the previous season having struggled for game time for a long time under the leadership of Pablo Franco Martin.

Just after leaving Usuthu, his agent Sean Roberts said that they had spoken to a number of the top-flight clubs who also showed interest in securing the services of the player.

However, nothing materialised then and now Maluleka has gone on to sign for the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United who were recently promoted from the third tier.

“Kruger United Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of George Maluleka , the 35 year old brings experience to the team having played for Kaizer Chiefs FC , SuperSport United FC and AmaZulu FC,” the club announced.

“The Kruger nation welcomes you to the family and wishes you well.”

Maluleka is one of well-traveled footballers in the league having commenced his professional journey at the University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) in 2006, where he progressed through their youth system.

Following a brief stint with SuperSport United, he moved to Ajax Cape Town (currently known as Cape Town Spurs). The midfielder enjoyed a successful tenure with the Urban Warriors, which led to his return to SuperSport in 2013.

Maluleka further established his name while playing for Chiefs, where he dedicated six years of his career at Naturena before transferring to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020.

After a brief spell with the Brazilians, he made a switch to Durban to join AmaZulu.
