Bafana Bafana international Khanyisa Mayo was on target again on Sunday as his team CR Belouizdad claimed a vital 2-0 win over ASO Chlef in the Algerian top-tier fixture staged at the July 5, 1962 Stadium.
It was the striker's first goal for the club in Ligue 1 matches after eight appearances since his move from the Premier Soccer League side Cape Town City in the summer transfer window.
Despite his undoubted quality, it wasn't easy for the 26-year-old to immediately hit the ground running since it was his first time playing outside Mzansi.
Mayo delivers again for CR Belouizdad
On Tuesday, Mayo scored in Group C's Caf Champions League game against Orlando Pirates. The home team had been stunned by a quick brace from Bucs youngster Mohau Nkota in the first half.
The South Africa international was introduced later in the game and managed to get his name on the score sheet but it was not enough to see his team get something from the fixture.
On Sunday, Aymen Mahious opened the scoring for the Reds from the penalty spot in the stroke of halftime. Mayo then made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute to help his team collect their 13th point of the ongoing campaign from the nine matches played.
A message to Broos?
Recently, Mayo has struggled to get into the Bafana Bafana team led by veteran coach Hugo Broos.
However, if the former Kaizer Chiefs target can sustain his form in front of the goal, then he can convince the Belgian to consider him in future assignments.
South Africa are not in action until March when they will resume their 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers before playing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2025.
